I am increasingly asked why the feathers do not shine and quickly look frayed, even right after moulting.
It often turns out that the bird has been in the shower with you. That in itself is not the problem,
but the blow-drying is.
Birds have a grease gland at their rump that they use to keep their feathers in good condition.
A bird with good feather condition does not even get wet on the coverts.
The water rolls off the feathers like pearls.
By blow-drying we remove the essential insulation of the bird, because the protective layer is damaged.
